Abstract
The Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) is a convening space that brings together expertise from communities at the frontlines of climate change, academia, policymakers, business, and practitioners to design and advance knowledge, practice, and policy to build resilience in vulnerable communities and landscapes. The GRP Resilience Insights report distills and illuminates the latest evidence from across the breadth of the partnership. The report highlights the importance of adopting resilience strengthening approaches to address the overwhelming challenges faced by vulnerable populations and places. It emphasizes the need to transition from seeing communities as victims of climate change to becoming resilience innovators and problem solvers. The report identifies five key intervention areas that have delivered the greatest results in building resilience: nature-based solutions, empowering women and marginalized groups, capitalizing on information and technology opportunities, making financial services and markets more inclusive, and deploying low-cost infrastructure solutions. These intervention areas are supported by evidence from the GRP's Global Resilience Challenge, Water Window Challenge, and partner programs. The report also emphasizes the importance of building the business case for resilience, highlighting the resilience triple dividend and the cost-benefit analyses (CBA) conducted by the GRP. The CBA results show that investing in resilience can yield significant economic benefits, including increased household income and improved food security. Effective resilience programming requires a systemic approach that is designed to be flexible and adaptable. The report highlights the importance of embracing diversity, creating agile self-organizing networks, promoting equity and inclusion, and innovating, learning, and scaling up successful interventions. The report also emphasizes the need to provide a safe space to innovate, test, and rapidly scale up resilience solutions, promote shared learning and capacity development, and convene diverse voices to shape policy and investment. The GRP Resilience Insights report provides a synthesis of learnings from years of cross-sectorial resilience work that can inform and strengthen future resilience programming. The report offers a framework for building effective resilience programs that are tailored to the specific needs and contexts of vulnerable communities and landscapes. The report highlights the importance of adopting a resilience strengthening approach that is grounded in the principles of agency, innovation, and knowledge sharing. By sharing knowledge and expertise from all corners of the world, the GRP community can help make communities truly resilient and capable of addressing the complex challenges they face. The report concludes by emphasizing the need to continue to nurture the paradigm shift towards resilience innovation and problem-solving. By doing so, we can transition from seeing communities as victims of climate change to becoming resilience innovators and problem solvers, and ultimately build a more resilient and sustainable future for all.
