USAID. MISSION TO SWAZILAND
Summarizes final evaluation (not attached) of a project to support the Government of Swaziland"s efforts to reduce the incidence of bilharzia and other water-borne diseases.
1970

Abstract
The evaluation covered the period 7/83-7/86. The project contributed to increased knowledge of water-borne diseases and improved health practices for more than 40,000 beneficiaries. A pilot activity to construct new water systems, improve existing water systems, and construct latrines proved successful in delivering clean, potable water to a large number of rural communities in Swaziland. The project underscored the importance of: coordination at the community level to overcome water-borne diseases, working with all the implementing units at the national level, and supporting pilot activities. General action decisions are to extend the project 3 years, refocus the project on the construction of water systems and community involvement in health education, and provide $2 million in additional funds. A total of 28 specific action decisions are noted.
