The project's main objective is to establish participatory management plans for priority fish stocks using the Coastal Livelihoods and Poverty Alleviation (CLPA) approach. This initiative aims to integrate institutional, administrative, socio-economic, and environmental aspects into the process of establishing sustainable fisheries management in Senegal. The project's second quarterly report covers the period from January 1 to March 31, 2014. During this period, the project supported the implementation of five initiatives related to governance, capacity building, and environmental management. These initiatives included the establishment of CLPA, the development of a system for disseminating information on fisheries in Senegal, and the validation of the National Strategy for Marine Protected Areas. The project also supported the approval and implementation of policies, including the local convention of Cayar and the national strategy on marine protected areas. Additionally, the project provided training and capacity building for 350 actors in the fisheries and environmental sectors, including 305 men and 45 women from three new local fisheries councils. The project's activities related to improving the scientific base of the project continued, including the finalization of terms of reference and methodologies for studies on the fisheries of ethmalose and sardinelle. The project also initiated activities related to mapping fishing grounds and priority stocks in new project areas. The process of validating management plans continued, with the project participating in a preparatory meeting for the validation of the National Plan for Sardinelles Management by the National Consultative Council for Maritime Fisheries. The project aims to support the validation of the document outlining the plan for managing sardinelles.
