Abstract
The program aims to provide opportunities for learners to build good knowledge, healthy values, and attitudes, and encourage good decision-making about a safe and healthy sexuality. The core messages of the program include respecting one's own body and the bodies of others, having the right to say "no" and respecting a "no" to any unwanted touch or attention, making good choices for one's health, and valuing boys and girls equally. The program is based on a set of core messages that will help learners make decisions to form healthy relationships and protect themselves from harm. The scripted lesson plans provide learning opportunities for learners to engage with their peers on how to build and manage healthy relationships and make healthy choices. The program includes a range of activities, such as readings, worksheets, time for reflection, assessment tasks, and opportunities to share with parents, siblings, or guardians. The program also includes a glossary of new terms, concepts, and words for learners to learn and use. Lesson 5.1, Body Image, is one of the lessons in the program. The core message of this lesson is "I have a purpose in life and who I am matters." The lesson aims to help learners understand the meaning of "self-concept" and how others view them and influence their self-concept. Learners will analyze their own self-concept and be encouraged to have a positive self-image. The key points of the lesson include understanding that self-concept is how one sees oneself, that a positive self-concept means liking and respecting oneself, and that physical appearance does not determine one's self-worth. The lesson includes activities such as identifying one's strengths, what makes one happy, and what others say one's strengths are, as well as a classroom discussion on self-concept and how to develop a positive self-concept. The program is designed to provide learners with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to make informed decisions about their sexuality and relationships. The program aims to promote healthy relationships, respect for oneself and others, and good decision-making about one's health and well-being. The program is based on the understanding that children worldwide are affected by HIV and AIDS, and that South Africa is one of the countries hardest hit by the epidemic. The program aims to provide learners with the information they need to make good choices and protect themselves from harm. The program includes a range of topics, such as body image, relationships, and decision-making, and is designed to be implemented over a period of time. The program includes opportunities for learners to reflect on their decisions and choices, and to share their thoughts and feelings with parents, siblings, or guardians.
