Abstract
Gender integration began with identifying gender differences and inequalities and their implications for specific programs. The initiative focused on addressing these differences in the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs. Gender-sensitive indicators address gender and go beyond sex disaggregation alone. They include gender attitudes and power differences, access to educational and economic opportunities, and gender-based violence. When possible, gender-sensitive indicators should be disaggregated by sex and/or age. The initiative reported on gender integration in quarterly and semi-annual reporting. Activities should report on gender integration, including whether a program has been designed to address gender-related issues. The initiative included gender-related questions or actions in the development of research questions. The initiative considered how gender norms affect data collection and addressed these norms in the analyses, reporting, and dissemination. The initiative included sampling men and women in the sample, and considered the potential differential impacts of the program on women and men. The initiative included a gender-balanced team, particularly in contexts with cultural and gender expertise. The team included members of the local community, and local researchers with relevant gender and cultural expertise.
