Abstract
The purpose of the visit was to inspect new equipment arrived at the site under Tarbela Phase I and to obtain necessary documentation/purchase orders for Phase II. During the site visit, EPP engineers inspected the station drainage pump recently arrived at Tarbela to verify WAPDA's reimbursement claim for this item under Phase-I FARA. Additionally, the SCADA System had arrived at Tarbela, but it was not opened due to the presence of insurance inspectors. WAPDA is scheduled to install and test/commission the new SCADA System by August 2015. On Phase-I, only one remaining item, Generator Rotor Poles, is under procurement, and WAPDA was requested to expedite its completion by end December 2015. WAPDA has opened a special dollar account in the National Bank of Pakistan in Islamabad, which is a necessary condition to meet before any disbursement is made under Phase-II funding. During the visit, WAPDA engineers had repaired the damaged draft tube of Unit-11, and the unit was operating and generating 424 MW. The permanent repairs will be carried out by a qualified contractor during the next year's shutdown. The EPP also visited the control room, where the plant was generating 1884 MW, with eleven units out of fourteen operating and the remaining units under shutdown due to low reservoir level and maintenance works. The Tarbela Hydro Power Plant is a significant source of electricity in Pakistan, and the visit report highlights the progress made in the implementation of Phase-I and the preparation for Phase-II. The report also emphasizes the importance of meeting the necessary conditions for Phase-II funding, including the opening of a special dollar account in the National Bank of Pakistan.
