Abstract
from August 2012 to August 2018. The project aimed to support the development of irrigation and rural roads infrastructure in Tanzania, with a focus on the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT). The project was part of the USAID/Tanzania's Feed the Future (FTF) program, which aimed to reduce hunger and poverty in Tanzania. The project's objectives were to develop irrigation hubs, improve productivity and production of rice and maize, and enhance environmental sustainability. This was achieved through the construction of irrigation infrastructure, including canals, dams, and water storage facilities. Additionally, the project focused on developing rural roads to facilitate farmers' access to resources and markets. The project also aimed to strengthen the institutional capacity of institutional structures for sustainable operation and maintenance of the investments. This included training and capacity-building programs for local government officials, farmers, and other stakeholders. The project was implemented in five regions: Morogoro, Manyara, Dodoma, Iringa, and Mbeya. The project's geographic coverage was extensive, with a total of 15 districts involved in the project. The project's progress was monitored and evaluated through regular quarterly reports. The quarterly reports provided an update on the project's achievements, challenges, and challenges faced by the implementing partner. The reports also highlighted the project's successes, including the completion of irrigation infrastructure, the establishment of rural roads, and the training of local government officials and farmers. The project's achievements were significant, with a total of 2,500 farmers trained in sustainable agriculture practices. The project also established 15 demonstration plots, which showed a 60% increase in crop yields. Additionally, the project improved the nutritional status of farmers and their families, particularly in the horticulture sector. The project's challenges were also significant, with issues related to irrigation infrastructure, rural roads, and institutional capacity. However, the project's implementing partner, CDM International Inc., worked closely with local government officials, farmers, and other stakeholders to address these challenges and ensure the project's success. The project's financial summary showed a total expenditure of $15 million, with a total of $10 million allocated for the project's implementation. The project's financial performance was satisfactory, with a total of $5 million remaining in the project's budget. In conclusion, the Irrigation and Rural Roads Infrastructure Project (IRRIP2) was a significant initiative implemented by CDM International Inc. from August 2012 to August 2018.
