Abstract
The project is part of the Feed the Future (FTF) program, a cross-sector initiative to reduce hunger and poverty in Tanzania. The project's goals and objectives are aligned with the FTF model, which focuses on developing irrigation hubs to maximize impact. The project aims to achieve three main objectives: improved and sustainable increase in irrigated agricultural productivity, expanded access to markets, and increased capacity of the Government of Tanzania authorities involved in rural roads and irrigation infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance. The project implementation arrangement involves USAID engaging a Program Manager to assist Government of Tanzania organizations to act as Implementing Partners themselves. This approach allows the responsibility for identifying, designing, and constructing project infrastructure to lie with individual government organizations, with technical assistance and capacity building from IRRIP2 to support their efforts. The project description highlights the importance of irrigation and rural roads infrastructure in achieving the project's objectives. Irrigation infrastructure is necessary for improved productivity and expanded production of rice and maize, while rural road infrastructure is essential for farmers to access resources and markets. The project also emphasizes the need to develop the capacity of institutional structures required for sustainable operation and maintenance of the investments. The project's geographic focus is on the Southern Agriculture Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT) region, which includes the FTF target areas of Morogoro Region, Manyara Region, Dodoma Region, and Zanzibar. The project's timeframes are from October 2012 to September 2013, with a focus on achieving the project's objectives during this period. The project's implementation details are outlined in the project description, which highlights the importance of technical assistance and capacity building in supporting the efforts of Government of Tanzania organizations. The project's monitoring and evaluation framework is also described, which includes the use of indicators to track progress and measure the project's impact. The project's financial summary highlights the financial status of the project during the reporting period, including the invoicing and financial projections for the next year. The project's annexes provide additional information on the project's activities, implementation schedule, and results framework. Overall, the IRRIP2 project is a critical component of the FTF program in Tanzania, aimed at improving agricultural productivity, expanding market access, and increasing the capacity of the Government of Tanzania to manage rural roads and irrigation infrastructure. The project's implementation arrangement, project description, and monitoring and evaluation framework are all designed to support the project's objectives and achieve its expected results.
