Abstract
The emphasis on the use of television and of satellites to distribute TV programming is in part a reflection of the great interest in the use of satellite-TV systems in those two countries: in the former, primarily for in-school education of children, and in the latter, for adult education with respect to such matters as family planning and improved agricultural practices. Part I: an introduction to the problems of communications for education in developing countries. Part II: an analysis of satellite TV for India including a comparison with distribution by microwave relay, and some cost estimates. Part III: discussion of telecommunication and education in Brazil; in-school education problems, the reform of the Brazilian educational system, and the interaction between communications and education. Part IV: commentary on expanding radio and TV services in Ethiopia. Part V: a compendium of technologies relevant to communications for education.
