Abstract
Initial collaboration among the founding members involved the development of a joint introduction to REDD 3-day course. Trainings were conducted in various countries, including Guatemala, Peru, Indonesia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, and others. Support for these efforts came from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. The Alliance for Global REDD+ Capacity (AGRC) members included Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza (CATIE), The Climate, Community, and Biodiversity Alliance (CCBA), Conservation International (CI), Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF), Yale-Smithsonian Environmental Leadership & Training Initiative (ELTI), Forest Trends/Ecosystem Marketplace/Katoomba Group, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Global Canopy Programme (GCP), Instituto Internacional de Educação do Brasil (IIEB), International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS), Rainforest Alliance (RA), The Center for People and Forests (RECOFTC), UN-REDD, and the World Bank Institute (WBI)/Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF). AGRC collaborations involved various activities, including the initial scoping meeting in Cancun, Mexico, in 2010, which was funded by the Packard Foundation. The Alliance also organized a climate change and the role of forests workshop in Veracruz, Mexico, in 2011, which was funded by JP Morgan. In 2012, a one-day workshop on conservation campus was held, funded by the Edward E. Hills Fund. The Alliance also conducted an assessment of training supply in six countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, and Madagascar, which was funded by CLUA. The Alliance for Global REDD+ Capacity developed a range of training materials and courses, including an online course revised in 2013, which was developed by TNC, WWF, CI, and RA. The course was designed to provide training on climate change and REDD+ policy and implementation. The Alliance also developed a competencies framework, which was funded by USAID-FCMC. Additionally, the Alliance conducted an assessment of REDD+ training needs and supply in six countries in the Africa and Asia-Pacific regions, which was funded by CLUA. The reports from this study are available on the RECOFTC website.
