USAID. BUR. FOR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE. OFC. OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Project to develop a training course at the University of North Carolina (UNC) for 20-25 LDC industrial policymakers, planners, and managers on: environmental problems associated with various industrial activities; pollution control technologies and costs; and requisite legal, institutional, and administrative arrangements.
1972
Abstract
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will help UNC by providing lecturers, materials, and laboratory time. UNC will develop, test, and evaluate training methodologies, curricula, and resources (training materials, national reports, and seminars). It is expected that the first half of the 10.5 week course will be devoted to classroom instruction at UNC and the second half reserved for visits to U.S. industrial plants. At a final seminar, participants will evaluate the feasibility of training programs of this nature. The United Nations Industrial Organization will finance five participants and contribute to personnel and administrative costs. Project amendment (written after 5/23/74) finances two additional 6-8 week courses at UNC for LDC policymakers and at least two regional seminars in LDC"s to assess the value of conducting this type of specialized training. Documentation for the UNC courses will be distributed to participants, LDC institutions, and other development agencies, and the course itself will be incorporated into UNC"s curriculum. A total of 75-90 LDC personnel will receive training. (PD-AAN-065)
