Abstract
The guide is intended for facilitators who will train 3 to 5 volunteers from each aldeia in the suco selected to use the tool. The training session is a daylong event, lasting 4-5 hours, including lunch and coffee/tea breaks. The guide outlines the topics to be covered during the training session, including immunization, vitamin A, de-worming, and community mobilization. The facilitators will use various training methods, such as flip charts, markers, and handouts, to engage the participants and convey the information. The immunization program in Timor-Leste has made significant progress in recent years, with immunizations now offered at community health centers, hospitals, some health posts, SISCa, and special outreach and campaigns. However, despite this progress, too many children are still missing some or all of their vaccinations, resulting in outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles. The guide emphasizes the importance of community leaders playing a role in ensuring that more children get completely immunized and protected. The facilitators will address concerns and misconceptions about immunization, including side effects, and emphasize the importance of completing immunization by 1 year of age. The guide also covers the importance of vitamin A and de-worming for children's health. Vitamin A is essential for the body to resist and fight diseases, prevent night blindness, keep the skin smooth, enhance physical and mental development, and reduce the number of children dying from diseases. De-worming tablets are distributed in the area to prevent intestinal worms, which can cause malnutrition and other health problems. The facilitators will use various resources, including handouts, flip charts, and markers, to convey the information and engage the participants. The training session will be conducted in a suco council office or other convenient venue in the respective community. The guide emphasizes the importance of community mobilization in ensuring that more children get completely immunized and protected. The facilitators will work with the community leaders to develop a plan to increase immunization coverage and reduce the number of children missing vaccinations. The training session will cover the following topics: 1. Immunization: The facilitators will explain the concept of immunization, how it works, and the importance of completing immunization by 1 year of age. 2. Vitamin A: The facilitators will explain the importance of vitamin A for children's health, including its benefits and how it is distributed in the area. 3. De-worming: The facilitators will explain the importance of de-worming for children's health, including how it is distributed in the area and its benefits. 4. Community mobilization: The facilitators will work with the community leaders to develop a plan to increase immunization coverage and reduce the number of children missing vaccinations. The guide provides a comprehensive framework for training community leaders on immunization, vitamin A, de-worming, and community mobilization. The facilitators will use various training methods and resources to engage the participants and convey the information, and the training session will be conducted in a suco council office or other convenient venue in the respective community.
