Abstract
THIS INCREASE IN WHEAT PRODUCTION IS RELATED TO THE MASSIVE INTRODUCTION OF NEW VARIETIES AND THE FOUNDING OF THE NATIONAL WHEAT RESEARCH AND TRAINING PROJECT IN 1970. THE INTRODUCTION OF SEED FROM MEXICO IN THE MID-SIXTIES IS DESCRIBED IN THIS REPORT. THE DOCUMENT FOCUSES ON THE WHEAT PROJECT -- ITS PRIORITIES, TRAINING PROCEDURES, BREEDING PROGRAMS OF BOTH SPRING AND WINTER WHEAT (TURKEY NOW HAS ONE OF THE WORLD"S LARGEST NATIONAL WHEAT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS), SPRING WHEAT TRIALS, CEREAL QUALITY OF THE WHEAT, ACTIVITIES OF PLANT PATHOLOGISTS, AND TILLAGE METHODS TO RETARD EROSION AND MOISTURE LOSS AND REDUCE WEED GROWTH.
