The USAID Education Strategy data request is a critical annual effort led by E3/ED to gather information on the full portfolio of programming supported by the education sector.

Abstract
The data request serves as a guide for Operating Units (OUs) responding to the data request, which is distinct from reporting on the Standard Indicators, also known as PPR. Data submitted by OUs through both the PPR and Education Strategy data request are essential for E3/ED in providing appropriate field support, telling the USAID Education story to stakeholders, and meeting external reporting requirements. The data request is focused on measuring progress towards the All Children Reading (Goal One) and Education in Crisis and Conflict (Goal Three) targets of the USAID Education Strategy. E3/ED will provide Operating Units with copies of data that were submitted to E3/ED in previous years, and Operating Units are asked to return all completed materials for the data request no later than Friday, November 17th, 2017. Operating Units with concerns about this timeline are encouraged to reach out to Katie Johnston-Davis ([email protected]). The guide is divided into sections, including Instructions, Appendix 1: USAID Education Activity Roster Instructions, Appendix 2: Beneficiary Reporting Sheet Instructions, and Appendix 3: Key Reporting Concepts. The guide provides detailed guidance on the steps needed to respond to the data request, including reporting on the "Activity" versus "Project," beneficiary reporting sheets, and fiscal versus school year. Operating Units are asked to report beneficiaries by school year, rather than by fiscal year, which is hoped to align better with how data are being collected and reported up. The Education Strategy Data Call is distinct from the PPR, and while the PPR information is reported through the FACTSInfo Nextgen system, it is highly important information at an office and an agency level. The guide also provides information on the USAID Education Data website, which hosts data and resources related to USAID Education strategy reporting. Operating Units are welcome to contact Katie Johnston-Davis ([email protected]) for assistance or guidance on reporting for the USAID Education Strategy. The guide includes detailed instructions for the data request, including an overview of instructions, detailed instructions, and appendixes that provide guidance on key reporting concepts, such as unique beneficiaries, total beneficiaries, direct beneficiaries, indirect beneficiaries, and actual values versus projected values. The guide also provides decision trees for identifying direct beneficiary and indirect beneficiary contributions to the USAID Education Strategy. Operating Units are encouraged to consider and identify any education work that has taken place since the beginning of FY17 in their country, and to report on any education access work that has been performed in response to an acute natural or man-made crisis. This work can be reported as contributing to the EICC objective.
