Abstract
The project operates in 67 districts across the country, targeting 23,800 teachers in public schools and 111 teacher education institutions. PRP's primary objective is to achieve this goal through three key objectives: teacher training, policy reform, and community support for reading. The project has made significant progress in the third quarter of FY 2017-18, reaching its project target of 1.3 million student beneficiaries of grade one and two. A total of 433,804 new students of grade one and two have been added during the reporting quarter, bringing the total number of students benefitted from PRP to 1,345,963. The project has also rolled out the reading program in Cohort 3 districts, completing the training of teachers and mentors across these districts. PRP has trained a total of 23,642 teachers as of June 30, 2018, including 4,585 teachers in Cohort 3 districts and 129 new teachers in Cohort 1 and 2 districts. Additionally, the project has trained 8,509 mentors/government officials, including 400 mentors, 95 academic supervisors, and 983 head teachers in Cohort 3 districts. PRP has also continued to provide Reading Learning Materials (RLM) to schools, including daily reading lesson plans (DRLP), workbooks, big books, level readers, and flashcards. The project has handed over RLM to schools, supporting the implementation of the reading program. The project's focus on teacher training has been instrumental in improving the reading skills of students. PRP's professional development model includes face-to-face training for teachers, which is an integral part of the project's approach. The project has also arranged condensed trainings for newly transferred/inducted grade 1 and 2 teachers to PRP schools. PRP's efforts have been recognized through the roll out of the reading program in Cohort 3 districts, which marks a significant milestone in the project's progress. The project's achievements under key project indicators, including the number of teachers trained and mentors/government officials trained, demonstrate its commitment to improving the quality of education in Pakistan. The project's focus on community support for reading has also been a key aspect of its approach. PRP has worked to engage communities in the reading program, recognizing the importance of community involvement in improving education outcomes. The project's efforts to provide RLM to schools and support the implementation of the reading program demonstrate its commitment to community-based support for reading. Overall, PRP's progress in the third quarter of FY 2017-18 has been significant, with the project reaching its target of 1.3 million student beneficiaries of grade one and two. The project's focus on teacher training, policy reform, and community support for reading has been instrumental in improving the quality of education in Pakistan.
