Abstract
The project maintained close relationships with government counterparts and streamlined the reform process through three policy working groups. WIG enrolled 599 women from Nangarhar, Herat, and Herat in the internship program, bringing the total number of enrolled women to 3,751. Of these, 2,591 are currently training, 818 have graduated, and 123 are employed. The project collaborated with USAID Promote: Women's Leadership Development (WLD) and USAID Promote: Women in the Economy (WIE) to enroll WIG interns in the three-month Jawana leadership training and to share messaging for the One Village, a Thousand Voices (OVATV) radio program. WIG also signed 23 Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with government ministries and independent agencies to advocate for employment opportunities and practicum placements for interns. The project made progress on policy reform initiatives to create a more hospitable environment for women in government. WIG convened three policy working groups to implement the reform process and expanded the coverage of the Workplaces Obstacles: Analysis and Recommendations (WOAR) evaluation to 15 additional ministries. The project also continued to support agencies that promote women's rights and empowerment. The USAID Promote: Women in Government project has now launched all but one of the planned internship cohorts. In Quarter 2, WIG enrolled 599 women from Nangarhar, Herat, and Herat in the internship program.
