Abstract
The program aimed to build a sense of security and increase trust in local authorities among local citizens. To achieve this, BFRP partnered with a representative's office to install 100 solar-powered streetlights and 200 public benches around popular public areas, including near markets and schools. The installation of streetlights provided a level of safety at night, reducing the risk of attacks by extremist groups. The representative and the local population provided strong support throughout the installation process, assisting construction workers in completing tasks such as guarding materials, drilling foundations, and easing access for construction work. The installation of streetlights also reduced the risk of robberies, as residents reported. A resident noted that the lights reduced insecurity on the main street. A committee was selected among five young residents to ensure proper management and maintenance of the lamps. The committee was trained on lamp safety procedures and safety procedures and regularly monitors the functionality of the lamps, making small repairs as needed. The installation of streetlights had a significant impact on the town, with residents experiencing a sense of security and newfound confidence. The lights allowed for increased interaction and increased economic activity, with a young entrepreneur setting up a chicken grilling stand that he runs in the evening until the 8 pm curfew. The installation of streetlights and benches has dramatically changed the way of doing business for local entrepreneurs. With the extended time, entrepreneurs can now spend more time running their businesses, and customers have more time to interact with each other. One entrepreneur noted that he has doubled his sales, selling up to 30 chickens per day. The installation of streetlights has also provided a sense of security for customers, allowing them to feel safe and secure while interacting with each other. The Burkina Faso Regional Program has demonstrated the effectiveness of installing streetlights and benches in improving the safety and security of local communities. The program has also shown that with the right support and resources, local residents can take ownership of their own safety and security. The program's success has set a precedent for future initiatives aimed at improving the safety and security of local communities.
