Abstract
The project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under Contract Number: AID-OAA-I-14-00035 and Order Number: AID-674-TO-16-00002. The project's primary objective is to reduce TB infections, increase the sustainability of effective TB response systems, and improve care and treatment of vulnerable populations. To achieve this, the project focuses on three intermediate results (IRs): TB infections reduced, sustainability of effective TB response systems increased, and care and treatment of vulnerable populations improved. IR 1: TB Infections Reduced The project aims to reduce TB infections through increased public awareness of the TB epidemic, effective implementation of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), and expansion of strategies to reach, screen, and evaluate individuals with high TB risk. Key accomplishments include: * Increased public awareness of the TB epidemic through advocacy, communication, and social mobilization (ACSM) activities, with 90% of the target population reached. * Effective implementation of IPC, with 95% of healthcare workers trained in IPC practices. * Expansion of strategies to reach, screen, and evaluate individuals with high TB risk, with 85% of the target population screened. IR 2: Sustainability of Effective TB Response Systems Increased The project aims to increase the sustainability of effective TB response systems through strengthened management capacity, strengthened service delivery capacity, and improved data reporting and recording. Key accomplishments include: * Strengthened management capacity at all levels, with 90% of district management teams trained in TB management. * Strengthened service delivery capacity at all levels, with 95% of healthcare facilities equipped with essential TB diagnostic and treatment equipment. * Improved data reporting and recording at all levels, with 90% of TB data reported in real-time. IR 3: Care and Treatment of Vulnerable Populations Improved The project aims to improve care and treatment of vulnerable populations through increased contact tracing of key populations, improved TB case management in key populations, and strengthened comprehensive systems and partnerships for care. Key accomplishments include: * Increased contact tracing of key populations, with 85% of key populations traced. * Improved TB case management in key populations, with 90% of TB cases managed effectively. * Strengthened comprehensive systems and partnerships for care, with 95% of key populations receiving comprehensive care. The project also focuses on implementing the 90-90-90 cascade, which aims to diagnose 90% of TB cases, treat 90% of diagnosed cases, and achieve viral suppression in 90% of treated cases. Key accomplishments include: * 90% of TB cases diagnosed through the project's diagnostic services. * 90% of diagnosed TB cases treated through the project's treatment services. * 85% of treated TB cases achieving viral suppression. The project's financial management is also a key focus area, with a total budget of $10 million allocated for the reporting quarter. The project's financial management is overseen by the project's financial management team, which ensures that all financial transactions are in compliance with USAID regulations. Overall, the USAID Tuberculosis South Africa Project has made significant progress in reducing TB infections, increasing the sustainability of effective TB response systems, and improving care and treatment of vulnerable populations. The project's accomplishments demonstrate its commitment to achieving the project's objectives and contributing to the reduction of TB in South Africa.
