Abstract
The assessment involved an institutional mapping tool, a community mapping tool, and a focus group discussion with youth. The process was guided by youth and designed to enhance their agency, self-efficacy, and initiative programming. The community mapping survey, which was conducted with 164 participants, revealed various issues of major concern or major problems for the community. The top-rated issues included the lack of entertainment opportunities for youth, the need for support and a method to have their voices heard, and the importance of reopening the Knowledge Station to receive courses that support youth. Other issues of concern included the need for business resources, opportunities for female integration into society, and addressing early marriage and limitations placed on females. The institutional mapping survey, which was conducted with 20 institutions, identified the needs of youth who did not complete their education. The survey revealed that 60% of the institutions mentioned that the primary need of these youth was governmental support, followed by for-profit and non-profit organizations. The focus group discussion with 16 youth participants further highlighted the need for youth outlets, such as entertainment facilities, disability-friendly public places, and libraries. The results of the community mapping survey and the institutional mapping survey were analyzed and presented in six categories: youth development, educational environment, health, social environment, inclusion, and community services. The analysis revealed that the community lacks entertainment opportunities, disability-friendly public places, and libraries, which are essential for youth development. The focus group discussion highlighted the need for integration efforts for persons with disabilities and the lack of support for initiatives that attempt to tackle the stigma. The demographic information collected during the community mapping survey revealed that 91% of the participants were Jordanian, 1% were Syrian, and 8% were Palestinian. The age group surveyed ranged from 12-85 years, with 50% of the sample being under 29 years old. The gender distribution was comparable between males and females, with 51% males and 49% females. The community asset mapping report provides a comprehensive overview of the needs and challenges of the community in Borma. The report highlights the importance of addressing the issues of concern, such as the lack of entertainment opportunities, the need for support and a method to have their voices heard, and the importance of reopening the Knowledge Station. The report also emphasizes the need for integration efforts for persons with disabilities and the lack of support for initiatives that attempt to tackle the stigma. The report provides a framework for addressing the needs and challenges of the community in Borma. The framework includes the development of youth outlets, such as entertainment facilities, disability-friendly public places, and libraries, as well as the provision of support and resources for youth who did not complete their education. The report also highlights the need for integration efforts for persons with disabilities and the importance of addressing the stigma associated with disability. The community asset mapping report provides a valuable resource for stakeholders, including government officials, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the needs and challenges of the community in Borma and highlights the importance of addressing these issues to improve the lives of youth and the community as a whole.
