Abstract
The demographic dividend is the economic growth potential where the proportion of active population, between 15 and 64 years old, is expected to be the highest. Jordan is expected to attain the demographic dividend in 2040. The program's leadership consists of a steering committee comprising representatives from the Higher Population Council, the Ministry of Youth, the Crown Prince Foundation, the All Youth Jordan Commission, and the USAID Jordan Communication, Advocacy, and Policy (JCAP) project. The program has developed a set of criteria for selecting youth participants, which takes into consideration gender and geographical representation. A total of 50 male and female youth were selected out of 120 applications to participate in the program. The selected youth were trained on demographic dividend policies, women empowerment, the impact of family size on the welfare of the family, and social entrepreneurial skills. Additionally, 24 youth were trained on JCAP's RAFFAHEE tool to facilitate community-awareness sessions focused on promoting family planning as part of life planning. The program aims to empower youth and housewives with recycling skills to create household ornaments made of cartoon and glass waste. The recycled materials could be then sold in local markets and generate income. The program also aims to increase environmental awareness with the community and provide youth and housewives with a modest income. The program has several phases, including the pilot phase, where the container will be placed in universities for the purpose of recycling. The program also aims to increase awareness about Jordan's demographic dividend and foster positive behaviors among youth to take part in achieving the country's potential for economic growth. The program has several initiatives, including Smart Trash, which is the first bin worldwide that automatically sorts glass, metal, and plastic in an eco-friendly way. The program also includes Dawerha w La Termeeha, which empowers youth and housewives with recycling skills to create household ornaments made of cartoon and glass waste. The program also includes Tatqeesh Team, which uses comic online sketches to shed lights on social issues concerning youth. The program has a strong focus on empowering youth and housewives with skills and knowledge to take part in the country's economic growth.
