Background The WASHplus Supportive Environments for Healthy Communities Project was a multi-year Cooperative Agreement (2010-2016) that supported healthy households and communities by creating and delivering interventions that lead to significant improvements in access, practices, and health outcomes related to water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and household air pollution (HAP).

Abstract
The project was led by FHI 360 in partnership with CARE and Winrock International, and funded through USAID’s Bureau for Global Health. WASHplus was also joined by a diverse set of NGO, university, and private sector resource partners. WASHplus included seven separate country programs: Bangladesh, Benin, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Uganda, and Zambia. Increase the availability and use of water supply, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), and indoor air pollution (IAP) interventions. Develop and implement WASH/IAP integration strategies. Support USAID’s participation in strategic partnerships. Develop and test new and innovative approaches and tools. This evaluation, conducted in 2014, examines the various aspects of the WASHplus program and provides recommendations for future programs.
