This document, titled Measuring and Monitoring Adaptive Learning: An Overview, is a two-page landscape review produced by USAID MOMENTUM.
2022

Abstract
The review aims to inform the monitoring and evaluation of adaptive learning, which is defined as the intentional adoption of strategies and actions to facilitate critical reflection and analysis of data, information, and knowledge to optimize program implementation and effectiveness. The document highlights the importance of adaptive learning in global health programming and the need for a standardized approach to monitoring and evaluation. It presents five key resources that suggest common themes related to defining essential capacities, processes, and performance in adaptive learning. The document also proposes three domains for adaptive learning monitoring and evaluation, including the institutionalization of adaptive learning practices, the utilization of adaptive learning processes to achieve program performance improvement, and the scaling up of adaptive learning products and practices. Finally, the document provides recommendations for measurement and monitoring, including the use of case studies, reflection diaries, and qualitative impact assessment data.
