2022

Abstract
It focuses on the role of the private sector in delivering immunization services to zero-dose children, who are children who have not received any routine vaccines. The brief presents the results of a literature review that aimed to document and understand the private sector's contribution to reaching zero-dose children, as well as the barriers, enablers, and motivators to private sector engagement. The review found that the private sector, including non-profit and for-profit providers, plays a significant role in delivering immunization services to zero-dose children, particularly in hard-to-reach areas. The brief also highlights promising practices for private sector engagement, such as conducting outreach sessions, screening for vaccination status, and utilizing information systems to track zero-dose children. Additionally, the brief presents case studies from various countries, including Angola, Bangladesh, and Nigeria, that demonstrate successful private sector engagement models. Overall, the brief aims to inform strategies for increasing immunization coverage and reaching zero-dose children through private sector engagement.
