USAID Advancing Nutrition · 2023

Abstract
The brief reports on an analysis of the multiple pass 24-hour recall method used to collect dietary data and estimate minimum dietary diversity (MDD) among children aged 6-23 months in Cambodia and Zambia. The study examines the additional information gained from subsequent passes after the initial open recall and its impact on MDD estimation. The findings suggest that subsequent passes may not add significant information, and their accuracy is low compared to observations. The brief concludes that organizations may consider using only the open recall method to save time and resources while maintaining data quality, but recommends pilot testing this approach before adoption.
