Abstract
The program operated between October 1, 2017, and September 30, 2018, with a focus on supporting the Government of Jordan in mainstreaming gender equity. Key achievements during this period included the expansion of social dialogue on gender equity, with four new public-sector institutions embarking on the gender audit process, bringing the total to 12 entities. The program refined the gender audit methodology to encourage greater institutional buy-in and stronger contributions from the gender audit teams. The first cohort of institutions who completed their gender audits last year began reporting concrete results, such as the establishment of a daycare for all employees at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. The program also delivered capacity-building trainings to public sector Gender Focal Points (GFPs) with official job descriptions, reaching 94 out of the 141 GFPs. This training built the capacity of GFPs to take a more active role in mainstreaming gender priorities at different departments within their ministries or public sector institutions. USAID Takamol and partners pushed an increasingly focused policy agenda, providing financial and technical support to CSOs, research institutions, and universities. Two Research Consortium papers and nine Universal Periodic Review (UPR) submissions provided critical analysis and recommendations. The program continued to work on changing restrictive gender norms through diverse components that engage both CSOs and the public to redress gender disparities. This included four Faces of Takamol social media campaigns, deeper integration of the Takamol Leaders Network, and the third and final round of the Souk Takamol small grants initiative. These efforts promoted dialogue on sensitive topics related to Jordan's Personal Status Law, masculinities, gender-based violence, and more. The program's results demonstrate its commitment to advancing gender equality in Jordan. By supporting the Government of Jordan in mainstreaming gender equity and pushing a focused policy agenda, USAID Takamol has made significant strides in promoting gender equality and challenging restrictive gender norms. The program's achievements serve as a model for future initiatives aimed at advancing gender equality in the region. The program's implementation was facilitated through several key interventions, including the gender audit process, capacity-building trainings for GFPs, and policy advocacy efforts. These interventions were designed to promote institutional buy-in, strengthen contributions from gender audit teams, and build the capacity of GFPs to take a more active role in mainstreaming gender priorities. The program's geographic focus was Jordan, with a specific emphasis on supporting the Government of Jordan in mainstreaming gender equity. The program's timeframes were October 1, 2017, to September 30, 2018, with a focus on achieving key results across multiple sectors, ranging from grassroots to the national-level. Overall, the USAID Takamol Gender Program has made significant contributions to advancing gender equality in Jordan. The program's achievements demonstrate its commitment to promoting gender equality and challenging restrictive gender norms, and its results serve as a model for future initiatives aimed at advancing gender equality in the region.
