Abstract
The program is focused on the Carare II region, where a comprehensive plan for the establishment of a protected area has been developed. The plan involves four main objectives: conservation and recovery of the forest and associated species, implementation and consolidation of sustainable production processes, promotion of environmental capacity of the Carare II property for environmental education and ecotourism, and strengthening of community processes through community participation mechanisms. The conservation and recovery of the forest and associated species objective involves establishing a network of species monitoring, planting species for the establishment of biological corridors, isolating forest patches, and establishing a biological corridor. This objective also includes delimiting the buffer zone and installing living fences. The implementation and consolidation of sustainable production processes objective involves implementing a drip irrigation system, adapting infrastructure for semi-stabling of cattle, and providing training in environmentally friendly production activities. This objective aims to promote sustainable production processes that are compatible with the conservation of the protected area. The promotion of environmental capacity of the Carare II property for environmental education and ecotourism objective involves training environmental guides, adapting and signposting trails, and designing and producing promotional brochures for the reserve. This objective aims to promote environmental education and ecotourism in the protected area. The strengthening of community processes through community participation mechanisms objective involves training community members in conservation, management, and administration of conservation, as well as managing incentives for conservation with involved entities. This objective aims to strengthen community participation in the conservation of the protected area. The plan for the establishment of the protected area in the Carare II region is based on a comprehensive analysis of the area's characteristics, including its physical, biological, socioeconomic, and agricultural features. The analysis involved collecting and analyzing secondary and primary information, as well as conducting field observations and interviews with local stakeholders. The plan also involves a participatory approach, with local stakeholders and community members involved in the decision-making process. The plan is based on the "Guidelines for the registration and establishment of natural reserves of civil society" (Ministry of Environment, 2002) and the 5-S methodology (The Nature Conservancy, 1999). The plan includes specific actions and strategies for each objective, including the establishment of a network of species monitoring, the implementation of sustainable production processes, and the promotion of environmental education and ecotourism. The plan also includes a component for the evaluation and monitoring of the conservation efforts. The establishment of the protected area in the Carare II region is expected to contribute to the conservation and recovery of the forest and associated species, as well as to promote sustainable production processes and environmental education and ecotourism. The plan is a comprehensive and participatory approach to conservation, involving local stakeholders and community members in the decision-making process.
