Abstract
The program focuses on preparing level 3 learners for the Liberia Primary School Certificate Examination (LPSCE). The LPSCE is a critical examination that determines a student's eligibility to progress to junior high school. The AQE program is implemented through Saturday classes, which are compulsory for all level 3 learners. The classes are designed to review topics expected to be covered during the LPSCE and to help learners develop study and examination-taking skills. The classes will focus on Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science using a range of materials, including worksheets, supplementary notes, Teacher Guides, and learner workbooks. The Saturday classes will be conducted over 12 Saturdays, with each class lasting 5 hours, including small breaks and a 20-minute recess. The classes will be led by teachers who will use a variety of teaching and learning materials, including a Saturday class Teacher Guide, Teacher Guides, Learner workbooks, worksheets, and topic review summary sheets. The program's objectives are to help learners review different kinds of nouns and their usage, complete exercises to demonstrate knowledge of nouns and their usage, and develop study and examination-taking skills. The program also aims to encourage learners to attend all classes, review previous knowledge and skills, and practice test-taking skills. The AQE program is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Accelerated Quality Education for Liberian Children (AQE)-ALP contract. The program is implemented by Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the West African Examination Council (WAEC). The program's implementation will be guided by a Teacher's Guide, which provides a week-by-week plan for the Saturday classes. The guide outlines the learning objectives, materials, and preparation required for each class, as well as tips for teachers on how to conduct the classes effectively. The AQE program is a critical initiative aimed at improving the quality of education in Liberia and preparing level 3 learners for the LPSCE. The program's focus on review and practice will help learners develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the examination and progress to junior high school.
