2019 · 441 pages

Abstract
The guide is designed to support teachers in implementing a literacy program that focuses on phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. The guide is structured into two units, with 58 lessons in total. Unit 1 covers the letters Aa to Zz, with each lesson introducing a new set of letters and their corresponding sounds. The lessons include activities such as letter recognition, word building, and reading comprehension exercises. The unit also includes review lessons to reinforce students' understanding of previously introduced letters. Unit 2 builds on the phonics skills introduced in Unit 1, with a focus on word families, rhyming, and sentence structure. The lessons in Unit 2 cover a range of topics, including word families with the letters S, T, and Short A, and the letters M, F, and A. The unit also includes review lessons to reinforce students' understanding of previously introduced concepts. Throughout the guide, the lessons are designed to be engaging and interactive, with activities such as games, role-plays, and storytelling. The guide also includes assessment tools, such as mid-unit and end-of-unit assessments, to help teachers evaluate students' progress. The guide is based on the Liberian curriculum and is designed to be used in conjunction with the Literacy Level 1 Learner Workbooks. The guide provides teachers with the necessary support and resources to deliver a high-quality literacy program that meets the needs of their students. The guide is available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 IGO license, which allows for free use, distribution, and adaptation of the material for non-commercial purposes. However, users are required to provide attribution to USAID and the MOE, and to include a disclaimer stating that the translation or adaptation was not created by USAID and should not be considered an official USAID translation. The guide is a valuable resource for teachers and educators working in Liberia, and can be used to support the development of literacy skills in primary school students.
