Abstract
The program aims to enhance the capacity of teachers and students to achieve better learning outcomes. A key component of this initiative is the development of teacher guides and learner workbooks, which are designed to support the teaching and learning of science, mathematics, and English. The learner workbook for science, level 2, is a supplemental reading material that covers various topics, including the Earth and the solar system. The workbook is divided into two main topics: Earth and the Solar System. The Earth topic includes lessons on soil, rocks, and minerals, while the Solar System topic covers the sun, stars, and other celestial bodies. Soil is a critical component of the Earth's ecosystem, and the workbook provides an in-depth explanation of the different types of soil found in Liberia. The four main soil types in Liberia are sandy, infertile soils, fertile loamy soils, gravelly soils, and laterite soils. Each type of soil has distinct characteristics, such as color, texture, and fertility, which are essential for plant growth. The workbook also explores the formation of soil, which is a complex process involving the breakdown of rocks into smaller pieces, the mixing of these pieces with humus, water, and air, and the resulting formation of soil. The workbook includes various activities and exercises to help students understand the concepts of soil formation and the different types of soil. The program's focus on science education is designed to improve students' understanding of the natural world and their ability to apply scientific principles to real-world problems. By developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, students will be better equipped to address the challenges facing Liberia, such as poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation. The Accelerated Quality Education for Liberian Children program is a critical initiative that aims to improve the quality of education in Liberia. By providing teachers and students with the necessary resources and support, the program seeks to enhance learning outcomes and equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
