Abstract
ACCES is part of the SENWASH portfolio, which comprehensively addresses WASH topics in the country. The project's name translates to "Sanitation, Behavior Change, and Water for Senegal" in English. ACCES's activities for the second quarter of FY 2021, covering January 1 through March 31, 2021, achieved significant progress in all four ACCES Outputs, gender integration work, and monitoring and evaluation activities. The project's focus areas include sanitation, behavior change, and water access. One of the major ACCES activities during the quarter was the sale of Sagal latrines, which are a type of improved sanitation facility. ACCES-supported businesses sold 1,016 Sagal latrines this quarter, bringing the cumulative total to 13,793 latrines sold. Additionally, the Crédit Mutuel du Sénégal (CMS) micro-finance cooperative disbursed a total of XOF 400,000 ($725 USD) in latrine consumer loans to a household in Kaolack, and CMS and BAOBAB+ disbursed a total of XOF 5,600,000 ($10,145 USD) in enterprise financing to three Sagal entrepreneurs in the Matam Region. The project also supported entrepreneurs in constructing 572 latrines in 555 households, providing access to improved sanitation facilities for 6,105 people. This achievement demonstrates the project's impact on improving sanitation conditions in the target areas. ACCES's progress in the second quarter of FY 2021 is a testament to the project's commitment to improving WASH conditions in Senegal. The project's focus on sanitation, behavior change, and water access has led to significant achievements in the target areas, and it is expected to continue making a positive impact in the coming quarters. The project's activities are coordinated through a work plan, which outlines the general activity coordination, key problems and issues, deviations from the work plan, budget execution, and planned activities for the next quarter. The project also maintains a procurement plan, which is updated regularly to ensure that the project's activities are implemented efficiently and effectively. ACCES's quarterly report for Q2 FY 2021 provides a comprehensive overview of the project's activities and achievements during the quarter. The report includes information on the project's outputs, gender integration work, and monitoring and evaluation activities, as well as updates on the project's budget execution and procurement plan. The project's success is attributed to the collaboration between ACCES and its implementing partners, including the Natural Resources Consulting Engineers, Inc. (NRCE), which serves as the prime implementing partner. The project's achievements are also a result of the support provided by the USAID/Senegal's SENWASH portfolio, which comprehensively addresses WASH topics in Senegal.
