Abstract
The country's geography is characterized by a long coastline along the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, with a mountainous terrain in the north and a desert region in the south. The capital city, Sana'a, is situated in the north-central part of the country. The humanitarian situation in Yemen is complex and has been exacerbated by ongoing conflict, poverty, and food insecurity. The country has been affected by a severe drought, which has led to crop failures and livestock deaths. The agricultural sector is a critical component of Yemen's economy, with many households relying on farming and livestock for their livelihoods. The US Government has provided significant humanitarian assistance to Yemen through various agencies, including USAID/OFDA, USAID/FFP, and State/PRM. The assistance focuses on several key sectors, including agriculture and food security, economic recovery and market systems, and humanitarian coordination and information management. The programs aim to improve food access, promote economic recovery, and enhance the overall humanitarian response in the country. The assistance is being implemented in various governorates across Yemen, including Ta'izz, Ibb, Aden, Al Mukalla, Sa'ada, and Sana'a. The programs are being carried out in partnership with several international organizations, including UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, IOM, and OCHA, as well as local organizations such as ADRA, IMC, and Mercy Corps. The assistance includes food vouchers, locally and regionally procured food assistance, logistics and relief commodities, nutrition support, protection services, shelter and settlements, and water, sanitation, and hygiene programs. The humanitarian response in Yemen is ongoing, with the US Government continuing to provide critical assistance to affected populations. The programs aim to address the immediate needs of the most vulnerable populations, while also supporting long-term recovery and development efforts in the country.
