Abstract
The research team conducted 11 focus group discussions with 70 adolescents aged 10 to 19 years, as well as interviews with health facility staff and community members. The study found that most health providers had not received training in providing services to adolescents, despite being aware of the standards. Younger providers were preferred by adolescents, who believed that older providers tended to be more judgmental. The study also found that adolescents preferred providers of the same sex, and that the lack of trained providers was a significant barrier to accessing health services. The study's findings indicate that the implementation of AFHS has been inadequate, resulting in a lack of adherence to the standards and guidelines. The research team suggests that strengthening adherence to the standards and guidelines is necessary to improve the provision of AFHS and adolescent health services. The study recommends that health facilities provide training to health providers, and that adolescents be involved in the planning and implementation of health services. The study's results also highlight the importance of involving adolescents in the development and implementation of health services. Adolescents reported that they preferred providers of the same sex and that they were more likely to access health services if they felt comfortable and respected. The study's findings suggest that the lack of trained providers and the inadequate implementation of AFHS are significant barriers to accessing health services. The study's recommendations include: * Providing training to health providers to improve their knowledge and skills in providing services to adolescents * Involving adolescents in the planning and implementation of health services * Ensuring that health facilities are youth-friendly and provide a safe and respectful environment for adolescents * Increasing the availability of trained providers to improve access to health services The study's findings have implications for the development and implementation of health policies and programs aimed at improving adolescent health services. The study's recommendations can inform the development of policies and programs that prioritize the needs and preferences of adolescents and promote their access to health services.
