Grant is provided under the Community Outreach and Leadership Development project (6740301) to the Human Awareness Program (HAP) to provide skills training and TA to community-based organizations working for social change in South Africa.
1987

Abstract
HAP will expand its skills training courses, which include typing, bookkeeping, recordkeeping, reception duties, and also organizational effectiveness skills such as goal setting, planning, conducting workshops, and decisionmaking. HAP will also publish a range of manuals covering a wide variety of topics, e.g., buying clubs, legal requirements for small organizations, using the media, and public speaking. The course tuition for members of community organizations will be funded by the grant. Members of USAID-funded organizations, such as advice centers, will be eligible, as well as others selected by HAP. HAP"s TA services for community-based organizations will also be supported. These services involve consultation, production of specific materials if necessary, and design and implementation of training courses to meet the particular needs of the organization. Assistance is often provided in a participatory workshop, with organization members helping to explore and resolve their own problems.
