Grant is provided under the PVO Support Project (3060211) in Afghanistan to the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to encourage Afghan refugees to repatriate by establishing six model farms designed to increase agricultural productivity and farmer income, demonstrate techniques to reduce dependence on mono-cropping, and facilitate a more balanced agricultural economy.

Abstract
Six, 1-ha model farms demonstrating integrated diversified agricultural production will be established at central locations in Paktia, Paktika, Logar, and Nangahar provinces in Afghanistan. Technical demonstrations will include: beekeeping; poultry production; home vegetable gardens; food storage/preservation; fruit tree nursery management; reforestation and woodlot management; seed multiplication; composting and use of green manures; animal fodder production; farm traction; farm animal vaccination; plant protection; and possibly, warm water fisheries. A training farm will be established in Darsamond, North West Frontier Province, Pakistan, to provide hands-on practical training to 16 agricultural technicians and 8 assistant technicians, and to administrative personnel. The agricultural technicians will train and provide TA to some 7,600 farmers who visit the model farms.
