Abstract
Child survival activities in Mali will build on efforts already underway and will focus on the Cercle de Banamba in the Koulikoro region. Key activities will include: (1) Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI), including tetanus toxoid shots for women of childbearing age; (2) diarrheal disease control, including oral rehydration therapy (ORT), latrine construction, and rehabilitation of water sources; and (3) nutrition programs, including breastfeeding, education in proper weaning, household food gardens, and Vitamin A treatment following a disease targeted schedule. In Bolivia, child survival programs will be expanded in La Paz and Sucre by about 50 communities for a total of about 357. Efforts will include: ORT; organization of village water and sanitation communities; EPI; growth monitoring/promotion for improved child nutrition; training of community health workers; control of acute respiratory infection, especially pneumonia; and identification and referral of high-risk pregnancies. The La Paz program will include activities in household food security and Vitamin A treatment following a Disease Targeted Schedule. Child survival activities in Haiti will target 134 communities in Croize-des-Bouquets District. Key activities will be EPI; ORT; organization of village water and sanitation committees; Vitamin A distribution; nutrition education; and AIDS education.
