Abstract
The grant will enable COUNT to support teacher training and the development of materials, professional staff members" skills, and the organization itself. In regard to materials development, four issues of "Countdown" will be developed and printed in 1994, and at least five different workbooks covering core curriculum topics will be developed; approximately 1,000 copies of each workbook will be distributed. Support for teacher training will enable at least 100 rural teachers per year to participate in COUNT workshops and receive guidance in innovative teaching methods for core primary mathematics topics. COUNT staff and tutors will also be trained in topics relevant to their professional responsibilities, and the grant will finance salary and benefits for a part-time bookkeeper and a project coordinator, as well as costs for travel and per diem and networking with other organizations involved in primary and mathematics education.
