AID grant agreement no. 674-0314-G-SS-3090-00 to Handspring Trust for Puppetry in Education to support its program of innovative approaches to basic education, especially science education, using multimedia materials under the South Africa basic education reconstruction [SABER] project

The grant will fund the development of radio programs and a comic series for the science education program. Handspring will produce interactive radio programs which will be broadcast into classrooms in the most rural areas of South Africa; topics in the series will relate to the physical science syllabus for Standards 3, 4, and 5. In addition, Handspring will develop six comic books which can be used in conjunction with the radio series, or as stand-alone supplements to the science curriculum, and six activity workbooks to accompany the comic book and radio episodes.
