AID grant agreement no. 674-0303-G-SS-9063-00 with Eastern Cape Community Development Trust to launch and implement a highly innovative pilot project in the field of community enterprise development

The Trust will acquire an existing, successful business venture, which will then be operated as a township enterprise in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The Trust will identify an existing business which is: manageable in size, capable of offering significant employment to ex-detainees and others, suitable for the transfer of business skills to township residents, and capable of generating long-term surpluses for the community"s benefit. The Trust will then acquire the assets of the business, and support its operation as a township venture via infusions of management and other TA and training. A drycleaning store and a brickmaking factory have been tentatively identified by the Trust as candidates for acquisition.
