AID grant no. 398-0280-G-00-1185-00 to Law College, Peshawar University for phase I of the provision of legal aid to women in Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP)

Grant is provided under the Human Rights Project (3980280) to the Law College of Peshawar University to prepare a comprehensive report on the problems facing women in the Pushtoon society of Pakistan"s Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP).

Abstract

The Law College will carry out a detailed study, focusing on legal, political, cultural, and religious issues; types of discrimination; and the reasons that existing legal protections are ineffective. The College will also identify lacunae and contradictions in laws relating to women, and suggest actions for ameliorating the conditions of women, e.g., legal aid, amendments to laws, and lectures/seminars, etc. for paralegals and women in general. The study is expected to lead to a follow-on A.I.D.-supported activity to provide legal aid to women.
