Grant is provided under the regional Intercountry Technology Transfer project to Universidad de las Americas in Mexico to support its costs in conducting a study of the high employee attrition rates in maquila (U.S.-Mexican assembly operation) industries.

Abstract
The University will: determine the causes of maquiladora employee turnover; suggest management solutions; apply the results in actual maquiladora settings; and encourage cooperative linkages between U.S. and Mexican universities and Federal Government Agencies. Since hundreds of U.S.-based companies operate within the maquiladora industry in Mexico, USAID has particular interest in learning about social repercussions, successes of maquila industries, and national and international migration issues.
