Grant is provided under the Family Planning Services and Support Project (6150232) to assist the Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) in expanding its community-based health care/contraceptive distribution (CBHC/CBD) system.

Abstract
CHAK will initiate CBHC/CBD programs in 20 new sites over three years and strengthen CBD activities in one of its eight existing sites. For each program, CHAK will establish up to four area health committees (AHC"s) and recruit and train institutional support staff. Each AHC in turn will train and supervise up to 15 community health workers (CHW"s), for a project total of 1,200 CHW"s. The CHW"s will be responsible for providing preventive health services (including oral rehydration, immunizations, malaria prophylaxis, nutrition education), promoting family planning, and distributing contraceptives (condoms, foaming tablets, and pills). The CHW"s will also provide counseling and follow-up services, and will refer those who need other health or family planning services to the local CHAK unit or a Ministry of Health facility. TA will be provided to CHAK in the development of revenue-generating and cost-sharing activities. The project will also establish a data collection system for monitoring and evaluating CBHC/CBD services in the 21 program areas.
