AID grant no. 623-0000-G-SS-8019-00 to the American Joint Jewish Distribution Committee to upgrade the facilities and care at the Gondar RRC children"s shelter for parentless victims of the drought in Ethiopia

The Gondar Shelter was established by Ethiopia"s Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in 1984 in former grain warehouses, and is currently home to some 270 children aged 6 months to 16 years, who are awaiting reunification with their families or other placement. The grant will finance: (1) conversion of a warehouse into a dining/recreation/classroom hall; (2) construction of a wash shed; (3) a 2-3 year supply of laundry and washing soap, essential medications, and school supplies; (4) repair of the latrine facilities; (5) kitchen items including a refrigerator, cooking utensils, and hoses to carry water from the wash shed; and (6) the salary of the orphanage director for one year.
