Grant is provided under the Manpower Development Assistance project (6450218) to establish a formal collaborative linkage program between Ohio University (OU) and teacher preparation institutions in Swaziland.

Abstract
The grant will help fund the following activities: (1) student exchanges, whereby up to six OU students per year will spend 6 weeks as students at a teacher college in Swaziland, and up to six students from Swazi teacher colleges will study for one or more academic quarters at OU; (2) faculty and staff exchanges, whereby prominent Swazi educators will visit OU to participate in teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in education, and OU faculty will study and or participate in an exchange program in Swaziland; (3) internships for Swazi students already studying in the United States, and possibly for other Swazis; (4) the stipend and transportation costs for a graduate associate(s) to act as an instructor in a Swazi teacher college; (5) the start-up costs of a program to make OU"s Alden library the depository for Swaziland documents in North America, to improve the quality of information available in the United States and provide Swaziland a "window on the world"; (6) creation of a $10,000 collaborative research fund to provide research grants to Swazi and OU graduate students who need to collect data in Swaziland; at least 50% of the grants will go to Swazi students; also, research journals may be set up to publish the results of such collaborative research. The grant will also finance modems and software to create computer linkages between OU, Swazi teacher colleges, and the Ministry of Education to transmit messages, data, instructional materials, etc.; working through the linkages and or on sabbatical visits, OU faculty might provide TA in new course development at the colleges. Other possible activities include creating video tapes of specialized lectures to be exchanged for the educational benefit of Swazi and OU students and faculty, and the participation of a Swazi student(s) in the linkage program now in effect between OU and the University of Manchester in England, to pursue a Master"s degree in international education.
