OPG to the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) for a pilot project to train small farmers to plant fast-growing trees on land with limited fertility.
1983

Abstract
The project, which will start in the Dominican Republic and later be expanded into other Caribbean Basin countries, will be implemented in cooperation with the Dominican Development Foundation (DDF) and other PVO"s. PADF will start a tree nursery using fast-growing species and small container technology, and will train eight nursery technicians. Using seedlings from the nursery, the DDF and other PVO"s will be primarily responsible for extending planting technology to some 200 small farmers. It is expected that these farmers will plant some 100,000 trees on their own lands both during the second rainy season of the project and again during the third. Amendment of 9/84 extends project 6 months to 3/85 to allow time for the second outplanting of trees, which was delayed, and for a workshop to disseminate project results and methodology.
