AID grant no. PCE-5053-G-00-2029-00 to Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science for program entitled `hypertension in Dominica : training detection and understanding"

Drew University of Medicine and Science to conduct research on the epidemiology of hypertension in Dominica as the first step in a long-range program to combat hypertension among peoples of sub-Saharan African descent. Drew University researchers will: (1) estimate the prevalence of hypertension through a population-based random sample; (2) evaluate the association between salt intake and blood pressure; and (3) use a study of twins to understand the role of heredity (and environment) on variation in blood pressure. The twin study will be the first to examine genes in a representative sample of blacks in a less developed country.
