AID grant to Opportunities Industrialization Centers International, Inc. (OICI) for a non-formal agricultural training center and demonstration farm at Notse

An OICI technical team will help establish a 122-ha residential agricultural training center at Notse-Todome, the land for which will be donated by the local community. OICI will provide at least 80 Togolese farmers per year with 6-month training programs which simulate the actual farming conditions of Togolese small farmers. Specific topics to be covered include: (1) cultivation of maize, cotton, rice, beans, and vegetables; (2) raising of swine, sheep, goats, and chickens; (3) use and maintenance of hand tools; (4) small farm construction skills; and (5) use of animal traction production techniques. To ensure application of the training, OICI will provide all center graduates with systematic follow-up training and assistance on problems encountered in farm start-up, crop selection, livestock raising, etc.
