Abstract
The program aims to improve early grade reading (EGR) skills for 100 million children in Asia. ACR–Asia is a collaborative effort between the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and RTI International, with support from various subcontractors and host-country counterpart organizations. The program's geographic coverage spans Asia, with a focus on improving EGR skills in countries such as the Philippines, Cambodia, and Uzbekistan. ACR–Asia's reporting period for the fiscal year 2021 is from October 1, 2020, to September 30, 2021. Implementation of ACR–Asia's activities is divided into several key areas, including the Burma Education Sector Assessment, the Build Out EGR Barometer, and technical assistance to the Uzbekistan Ministry of Public Education. Additionally, the program supports the development of teaching and learning materials, as well as the implementation of mother-tongue-based multi-lingual education (MTB-MLE) programs. ACR–Asia's progress is monitored and evaluated through various indicators, including the number of children reached with EGR interventions, the number of teachers trained, and the number of teaching and learning materials developed. The program's achievements are reported in the annual progress report, which provides an overview of the activities conducted during the reporting period. The report highlights several key accomplishments, including the completion of the Burma Education Sector Assessment, the development of the EGR Barometer, and the provision of technical assistance to the Uzbekistan Ministry of Public Education. Additionally, the report notes the successful implementation of MTB-MLE programs in several countries, including the Philippines and Cambodia. ACR–Asia's activities are supported by a range of stakeholders, including USAID, RTI International, and various subcontractors and host-country counterpart organizations.
