Abstract
The project's main purpose is to contribute to social cohesion through the transformation of schools into Comprehensive Centers for Peaceful-coexistence within the community. FEPADE is implementing E&C through three operational areas: Education, Social Cohesion, and Alliances. The Education area works directly with public schools participating in the project to provide them with the tools, methodologies, and infrastructure necessary to strengthen their capacity to become Comprehensive Centers for Peaceful-coexistence. This includes providing a safe and fun environment where students can learn, play, practice sports, and work on their soft and hard skills. The Social Cohesion area is developing and implementing strategies to strengthen the social fabric of the communities surrounding the schools by empowering community members and providing them with the skills and knowledge to manage their own community projects successfully. The Alliances area encompasses the project's efforts to establish public-private partnerships that promote social cohesion in education communities. This area is working to obtain leverage contributions from the private sector to consolidate and expand the scope, efficiency, and sustainable impact of education and social cohesion activities carried out by the project. During fiscal year 2019, the project created 12 new Education Corridors, falling 3 short of the year's goal. The commitment of the private sector with the education corridors allowed the Project to surpass its established leverage commitment goal by 16%. The project has strengthened the skills and competencies of 399 school teachers and 24 principals. Additionally, 3,684 parents and guardians have reinforced their skills and competencies through activities coordinated by the Social Cohesion staff. The project has also trained 3,676 teenagers in risk of violence in social or leadership skills through programs assisted by the USG during FY2019. In total, 13,160 persons participated in the activities of the Education and Coexistence Project, with a total of 11,330 beneficiaries during the period of October 2018 - September 2019. The project has reached a total of 17 corridors, 42 schools, and at least 65 communities.
