Abstract
The tool was developed through the USAID-funded ASLI project, a two-year public-private partnership aimed at helping private companies and the Government of Indonesia move towards a sustainable palm oil industry. The A-Report provides a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that represent the key factors needed to assess sustainable practices. The tool covers three elements: an assessment checklist, a score-calculation system, and a report template. The A-Report is voluntary and intended to aid private companies in implementing their sustainability commitments. It can also serve as a simulation model to help companies familiarize themselves with the sustainability standards applied in the palm oil sector. The A-Report was developed through a multi-stakeholder consultation process involving the Government of Indonesia, experts in related fields, NGOs, and industry members. The tool was tested at a plantation concession to evaluate its compatibility with real-world conditions. The development process involved collecting references from various sustainability standards, including the principles and criteria for ISPO, RSPO, and CERES. The A-Report is designed to increase access to existing sustainability schemes for small- and medium-sized companies, which often find it difficult to meet the requirements of sustainability standards for oil palm plantations. By using the A-Report, businesses can prepare themselves to meet the requirements of sustainable certification systems, such as ISPO certification. The A-Report covers a range of sustainability aspects, including environmental, social, and economic factors. The tool is intended to be used by oil palm companies to assess their performance and identify areas for improvement. The A-Report can also be used by companies to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and to communicate their progress to stakeholders. The development of the A-Report was supported by various stakeholders, including the Government of Indonesia, NGOs, and industry members. The tool is expected to contribute to the sustainable development of the palm oil industry in Indonesia. The A-Report is a useful resource for oil palm companies seeking to improve their sustainability performance and to meet the requirements of sustainability standards.
