Abstract
Since 2016, more than 4.8 million Venezuelans have fled their country, with Peru receiving the second largest number of migrants in the region. The migrant population is comprised of highly vulnerable groups, including unaccompanied youth, female-headed households, pregnant and lactating women, people with disabilities, and elderly traveling alone. The Peruvian government and society have been challenged to respond to the crisis, with many migrants arriving with limited monetary resources, access to medicine, medical care, clothing, and other essential resources. World Vision, in partnership with CARE Peru, is implementing a large-scale humanitarian response program providing multi-purpose cash and hot meals in Lima, Tumbes, and La Libertad to meet the basic needs of migrants. The project aims to address the immediate needs of migrants and provide them with the necessary support to rebuild their lives. The baseline report for the cash transfer component of the project, conducted in August 2021, aimed to gather information on the characteristics of the surveyed population, including their demographics, housing infrastructure, and access to basic needs. The report also assessed the effectiveness of the cash transfer component in meeting the basic needs of migrants, including food security, protection, and livelihoods. The findings of the report provide valuable insights into the needs and challenges faced by Venezuelan migrants in Peru and inform the development of targeted interventions to address these needs.
